Since technology complexes of the past often were sterile and unfriendly, we resolved that our design should be vibrant, engaging, and encourage the creativity of the user. The design of this 445,289 SF facility is flexible, open and optimizes every foot; maximizing the return on the owners' investment. Renovation also included design of multiple entrances connecting internal activities, improved access areas, circulation. The offices/specialty areas were driven by the users - designed with minimal columns for maximum flexibility with ability to accommodate future data systems. Wet/dry labs/benches were designed for efficiency, yet comfortable spaces promoting collaboration between labs/offices, and movement between activities. Gathering areas (large cafeteria, fitness area, conference center room located along the circulation spine of the building) enhance the interaction between users, visitors and draws people from neighboring complexes. The original building was designed by Tucker Sadler in early 1970. Using superior material structure, combined with new uses and users in mind, we integrated new technologies and innovative design with the successful, sustainable design principles of the past.
