SHARP REES-STEALY MEDICAL OFFICE BUILDING San Diego, California This three-story, 60,000 SF medical office building is an excellent example of how planning, cost-management, and a front-end commitment from project team members can result in a successful project. A creative application of standard materials and systems provides a pleasant effect. The curtain wall system is standard yet utilizes two glazing colors to achieve a customized appearance. A tall, dramatic frame accentuates the entrance, providing a focal point among the largely horizontal forms. Specialty clinics include Cardiology, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Gastroenterology, Internal Medicine, and OB-GYN. They are planned around a common open structural module, allowing flexibility for future growth and/or change.

DIAGNOSTIC AND TREATMENT EXPANSION Sacramento, California Mercy Healthcare, working with Tucker Sadler, sought a design solution that would emphasize outpatient services in a convenient, comfortable environment, while also expanding key existing departments, include Surgery, Clinical Laboratory, and Imaging. In addition, the facility required a new Emergency Department, including a helipad, trauma-related triage, and an eight-bed Trauma Intensive Care Unit, enabling the hospital to serve as the new Regional Center in Sacramento.

JEAN HAHN SURGICAL PAVILION San Diego, California Tucker Sadler’s design team visited children’s hospitals throughout the country evaluating building designs and determining the necessary elements for state-of-the-art equipment to be installed in this facility. The resulting structure remains an up-to-date extension of the existing facility. The surgical wing accommodates eight operating rooms and supporting central sterile, radiology, acute care facilities, and an improved dietary and dining area. Based on energy conservation, functional efficiency, and psychological impact on patients, the interior and exterior design of the building creates an efficient non-threatening environment which physicians feel can contribute to the healing process. Top priorities were to give the children a sense of security and comfort, while accommodating the state-of-the-art equipment.
