San Diego, California

The Scripps Aviary is one of two hillside environments at the San Diego Zoo. The exhibit can be described as an enclosed treetop garden, enhanced by waterfalls and extensively landscaped with tropical plants. Because the exhibit is on a hillside, the aviary path allows visitors to get relatively close to dozens of bird species within the treetops and shrubbery along the way.

"POLAR BEAR PLUNGE" SAN DIEGO ZOO
San Diego, California

Following on the heels of the popular Hippo Beach exhibit, the zoo commissioned Tucker Sadler to design a similar above water/below water exhibit for their polar bears. Water temperatures in the Polar Bear Plunge are chilly, as is the simulated snow and ice shoreline of the exhibit, controlled by refrigeration devices below the surface.
